It's safe to say there's no championship hangover in Boston.

The reigning champion Boston Glory (1-0) got a big 21-16 win in their 2026 home opener over the DC Breeze (0-1). Oscar Graff started the game with an interception, Boston converted the opening point for a break, and never relinquished the lead from there. MVP Tobe Decraene had a career night with 8 assists, 5 goals, and 734 total yards while completing 58-of-59 throws, while younger brother Lander Decraene made his pro debut in fantastic style with a game-high five blocks. Boston had just nine turnovers on the night, and converted 78 percent of their offensive possessions, their highest rate since June 2024.

“I’ve put in a ton of work, this is just the start,” said Tobe during a postgame interview. “It’s a group effort, I’m just at the spots where you count the stats.”

Former Breeze legend Rowan McDonnell made his debut with the Glory on Saturday night, and started his tenure with the Glory by throwing the first pull of the season. McDonnell finished the game with three assists and one block in 19 defensive points; the 36-year-old played just five defensive points combined over his last two regular seasons in DC.

Other former DC star Thomas Edmonds looked like a perfect pairing piece on offense with Tobe, and collected three combined scores and 285 total yards on 25-of-25 from the field. Edmonds is without a throwaway in each of his last two starts, and is 95-of-96 on passes over his last four appearances overall dating back to last season.

Jeff Babbitt, Ryan Dinger, and Simon Carapella all caught multiple goals each. The latter two players begin 2026 as vital parts of Boston’s continuation attack on offense, with Carapella notching 2+ assists and 24+ completions for the fourth straight start, and showcasing a developing deep game as a passer.

DC fell behind 6-2 in the first quarter, but won two of the final three quarters thanks to their offense finding its rhythm. Jacques Nissen, AJ Merriman, and Andrew Roy were all big-time producers, while former Philly All-Star Sean Mott had the second most yards on the Breeze in his debut with the team. The Breeze committed just 15 total turnovers, but managed only four total takeaways.

Both teams have single games against the Montreal Royal next weekend at home, with the Glory playing host on May 2, before the Breeze take their turn on May 3. Boston and DC have one more regular season meeting on June 13.
