Honor Roll: Week 2

Players listed alphabetically by last name.

Travis Dunn, San Diego Growlers

The perennial all-UFA honoree had a relatively quiet game on Saturday vs. Los Angeles, but then erupted in Sunday’s rematch on the road. Travis Dunn tossed eight assists, the most of any UFA player in a game so far this season, and also scored a pair of goals in San Diego’s 25-16 victory in the second game of the weekend. One day earlier, he was only directly involved in two scores, but he did tally a pair of blocks in the 19-12 triumph. Overall, he helped lead the Growlers to their first 2-0 start since 2019.

Walker Frankenberg, Oakland Spiders

Another downfield playmaker that led his team to a two-win weekend, Walker Frankenberg continued to be a force for the Oakland offense. Between the pair of road victories over Seattle and Oregon, Frankenberg combined for six goals, 10 assists, one block, and over 1,100 total yards. The Spiders are now 3-0 for the first time in a decade, and Frankenberg leads the league in assists, receiving yards, and total yards through the first two weeks of the 2025 season.

Sam Grossberg, Philadelphia Phoenix

We’ve seen plenty of dynamic debuts in the UFA through the years, but Sam Grossberg was an absolutely astonishing revelation for the Philadelphia Phoenix on Sunday afternoon against Toronto. The 19-year-old, playing in his first pro game, undeniably dazzled and dominated, looking like a seasoned veteran with his poise, presence, and precision. Despite missing the team’s season opener at DC, the Phoenix still put Grossberg on the O-line, and he rewarded them with five assists, three goals, and a 100 percent completion rate on 45 throws. Working alongside Sean Mott and Scott Heyman, the three most prominent distributors combined to complete 147-of-149 throws and play keep away from the Toronto defense in the game’s biggest moments. The Phoenix may be for real, folks. And this 19-year-old kid is definitely for real.

Scott Heyman, Philadelphia Phoenix

This could easily be Mott as the second member of the Phoenix on this week’s scintillating seven, but Heyman’s speed, instincts, and all-around excellence are just too tough to ignore. He finished Sunday with 10 scores—seven assists and three goals—and 726 total yards, the most of any player who took the field this past weekend. He also added a pair of blocks and completed all three of his hucks. And he set up the end zone pylons pregame, grilled the hot dogs at the concession stand, and shook the hands of every fan. Ok, I cannot verify the claims in the previous sentence, but it wouldn’t be shocking to learn he was literally doing those things too. There’s a long season left—four teams still haven’t played their first game—but through two weeks, Heyman has been a First Team All-UFA type of guy.

Will Hoffenkamp, Pittsburgh Thunderbirds

Playing in just his ninth UFA game, Will Hoffenkamp picked up where he left off last season as one of the biggest playmakers the Thunderbirds have ever had. And on Friday against Indy, he actually did more damage as a downfield receiver than ever before, producing a career-high three goals and 239 receiving yards. He also registered five assists, four hockey assists, and 344 throwing yards, and 71 completions, the most for any player in the league through the first two weeks. If Hoffenkamp can continue to be a versatile threat who can win matchups both downfield and in the handler set, there could potentially be two Pennsylvania teams in the UFA playoffs in 2025.

Jackson Potts, Austin Sol (Pictured)

Jackson Potts has been a solid player in this league for half a decade now, but he’s lifted his game to a new level through two weeks of the new season. One week after matching his career high for scores in a game with six, Potts surpassed that and set a new benchmark with his five-assist, four-goal performance on Saturday against Madison. He also set a new career best with 27 completions (and zero throwaways), as the Sol stormed out to an early lead on Saturday night and never really looked back. Through two weeks, only Heyman and a pair of Spiders—Frankenberg and last week’s Honor Roll member Leo Gordon—have more scores across the league than Potts.

Zeppelin Raunig, Seattle Cascades

Speaking of scoring, is there a better finisher in the league right now than this guy? Zeppelin Raunig went on a double-digit goal-scoring spree on Saturday against the Spiders, finishing with 10 goals for the Cascades in their season opener. Prior to this performance, he had never produced more than seven goals in any single game. It’s also worth mentioning that, through two weeks of the season, no player around the league has churned for more receiving yards in a game than the 478 that Raunig accumulated this past weekend. He’s been a prolific goal-scorer since he first suited up for Seattle, but the now-22-year-old has clearly taken his game to a new level. He finished third in the league in goals—with 51 in 15 games—in 2024. With 10 in one game this year, what new scoring stratosphere could Raunig reach in the months ahead?
