Boston's Malachi Raymond Wins 2025 "Be The Change" Community Award

August 19, 2025

Malachi Raymond of the Boston Glory has been named the 2025 Ultimate Frisbee Association (UFA) “BE The Change” award recipient. After suffering a season-ending injury in early 2025, Raymond shifted his focus to teaching ultimate frisbee to youth, impacting nearly 3,000 children across more than 20 local clinics and events in the Boston area. Raymond will be officially honored at 2025 UFA Championship Weekend in Madison, WI on August 22-23.

Raymond started coaching beginner ultimate frisbee players while he was in middle school. While playing at Middlebury College, he conducted clinics for local high school students and coached at youth camps in the summer. Since joining the Glory, Raymond has coached high school ultimate in Lexington, MA, and has led the team’s efforts to expand access to the sport to underrepresented communities. Raymond worked with numerous youth and community organizations in 2025, including the Special Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the Boston Ultimate Disc Alliance (BUDA).

Since 2023, the UFA and its official apparel partner BE Ultimate have partnered to present the “BE The Change” award, honoring one current player each season who has given their time and energy to have an outstanding positive impact in their local community. Previously named the league’s Community Engagement Award, the UFA Inclusion Initiative (UFAii) began recognizing the achievement in 2021. Terry Gaither of the Detroit Mechanix won the award last season.

The UFAii strives to increase racial and cultural diversity and inclusion in the sport of ultimate by engaging communities of color and partnering with people who share the same mission. Learn more at watchufa.com/league/aii
