On Friday night, the DC Breeze (6-3) and the New York Empire (9-0) clashed in their second meeting of the season. The game was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, featuring impressive plays by key players. DC found themselves trailing by two points at the end of the first quarter and at halftime. However, they came out strong in the second half, eventually taking a lead 14-13 before giving up a buzzerbeater score to finish the third quarter tied at 14-14. Despite it once again becoming a thrilling divisional rivalry game, ultimately, New York capitalized on crucial moments and secured a 21-18 victory, winning the fourth quarter 7-4.

Despite the loss, the DC Breeze can take pride in their flawless red zone performance, converting all 12 opportunities (100%). Equally impressive, the New York Empire also had a perfect record in the red zone. Kevin Healey and Tyler Monroe played big-time roles in the Breeze’s offense, each contributing three goals and Monroe adding three assists. DC was missing two O-line starters – Ben Oort and Jacques Nissen competing at the WFDF U24 Championships in Nottingham, England – which prompted Healey to play with the offensive unit for the third straight game and Rowan McDonnell to cross over as well. On the opposing side, Ryan Osgar of the Empire delivered a dominant performance, showcasing his disc skills with four goals and eight assists, establishing himself as a difference-maker throughout the entire game.

With an undefeated record, the New York Empire now stands as one of two teams in the AUDL to maintain perfection, alongside the Salt Lake Shred, both with 9-0 records. The Breeze are now three games behind New York in the East Division standings but are in firm control of the No. 2 seed. DC struggled with a 25% (5/20) break percentage, where the Empire were able to take a better advantage at 32% (7/22). The Empire’s D-Line conversion, particularly in the fourth quarter, proved pivotal as they secured a three-goal advantage. The Breeze’s D-Line conversion stood at 56% (5/9), while New York boasted an impressive 70% (7/10) conversion rate, playing a significant role in their victory.

Looking ahead, the Breeze aim to rebound strongly on their home turf next Saturday night at 7:00 PM against the Boston Glory. Having defeated the Glory last week, they seek to replicate that success. Carlini Field will be the stage for what promises to be an exciting match for the East Division next Saturday. Tickets are available here.
