Week 8: Flyers vs Havoc Preview

By Noam Gumerman

The Carolina Flyers begin a four-game homestand to end the regular season this Saturday against the Houston Havoc. The Flyers enter this game 6-2 and in second place in the South Division, needing to stack wins down the stretch to keep in touch with the first-place Austin Sol. Houston enters the weekend 1-4, but not as far out of the playoff picture as one would think. They have two games in hand on Atlanta, who are currently in third in the South, and with a win in both games in hand they’d be tied with Atlanta.

Carolina split their road trip against DC and Pittsburgh last weekend, while Houston were blown out by Seattle two weeks ago and will be making a stop in Atlanta to play the Hustle Friday before heading north to Durham for the Flyers. The only win Houston has this season so far is against winless Las Vegas, so it’ll take a herculean effort to beat this Flyers team on the second half of a back-to-back.

This week will be an opportunity for the Flyers offense to continue working through the pressure DC put them under last weekend and to begin fine-tuning how they want to play offense as they push for the playoffs. Last weekend, they were really forced into looks and timing they were uncomfortable with for the first time all year. But now, with the full roster intact and having faced adversity, they are ready to put the pieces together for a playoff run.

In fact, with a win this weekend, Carolina will be just one game away from clinching a spot in the playoffs. Catch the game in person at Durham County Stadium or on WatchUFA.tv.
