It’s rematch season in the AUDL. The Toronto Rush won’t have another regular season game against a team that they haven’t already played. Rematches generally make for higher-quality disc, as coaches and players have a game’s worth of film to use in preparation. Schemes and tactics that didn’t work in the first game need to be adapted, and new approaches can be attempted on the field.
Halfway through the 2018 AUDL season, it’s time to talk some hardware. Who’ve been the best players this season? Introducing my power rankings for this year’s MVP award.
1. Sean McDougall, Los Angeles Aviators 2018 Stats: 8 games played, 12 assists, 33 goals, 19 blocks, 73-for-76 (96%) on throws
Deceptively, the final score was 24-16. It wasn’t that close.
On Saturday night at Breese Stevens Field, 1,200 of the best fans in ultimate were dealt a powerful punch in the gut, and the hometown team they cheered for was left looking for answers, humbled by the speed, precision, and overall brilliance of a dynamic opponent finally hitting its stride.
The Toronto Rush are officially the last unbeaten team of the 2018 AUDL season after a 28-23 win over the Philadelphia Phoenix. The Rush were without several important pieces, including Isaiah Masek-Kelly and Ben Burelle, but they didn’t miss a beat. Rookie Drew Wilson filled in admirably on the starting O-Line with 3 goals and 3 assists.
